Hayes registers double-double against Tech

Lady Raiders fall 68-64
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee put forth a tremendous second-half comeback against Tennessee Tech; however, they were not able to sustain the rally as the Golden Eagles claimed a 68-64 win here Friday.
The loss snapped a 13-game win streak against Tech for the Lady Raiders (2-1), who had three players in double figures led by A'Queen Hayes' career-high 21 points.
In fact, Hayes came off of the bench and registered her first double-double as a Lady Raider with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while also collecting three steals, blocking two shots and dishing out two assists in her 33 minutes of action.
Middle Tennessee trailed by 16, 39-23, at the half before storming out of the locker room and imposing their will during an exciting second-half comeback.
"We really didn't come out to play and I don't know why," Middle Tennessee Head Coach Rick Insell said. "We were able to get some things straightened out in the second half. It was a good basketball game. It ended up being an exciting game for the fans and the teams played hard. You have to credit Tennessee Tech. They played hard and got the win."
The Lady Raiders were outstanding in the second half when they outscored the Golden Eagles, 41-29, to give themselves a chance for the comeback win for the second straight game. Middle Tennessee blitzed Tech, 22-9, the third quarter and pulled to within 48-45 going into the final stanza.
Hayes were instrumental in the third-quarter turnaround. She scored 12 in the frame and had 19 of her 21 in the second half.
Alex Johnson finished with 12 points and five rebounds to go with her three steals, while Anna Jones finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Middle Tennessee returns to action when it plays host to Belmont Monday at 6:30 p.m.
