ESPN Events Release
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – As Middle Tennessee men's basketball prepares to embark for the Bahamas where it will compete in the 2018 Battle 4 Atlantis, ESPN Events has announced the field for the 2019 Myrtle Beach Invitational in which the Blue Raiders will participate.
The tournament, hosted at the HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina in Myrtle Beach, S.C., features an 8-team field that will compete on Nov. 21-24, 2019.
The field includes four power conference teams in reigning national champion Villanova (Big East), Baylor (Big 12), Mississippi State (SEC) and Utah (Pac-12). Middle Tennessee will represent Conference USA in Myrtle Beach and are also joined by Coastal Carolina (Sun Belt), in-state foe Memphis (AAC) and Ohio (MAC).
In addition to Villanova, the 2019 field boasts four other 2018 postseason teams in Baylor, Mississippi State, Utah and the Blue Raiders, all of whom competed in the National Invitation Tournament. Utah and Mississippi State advanced to the NIT Finals and Semifinals, respectively, in New York City last spring.
"The Myrtle Beach Invitational, much like the Battle 4 Atlantis, is not only a great experience for our players and fans but also another opportunity to give our program exposure on a national stage," Head Coach Nick McDevitt stated. "It will give us the chance to continue building this program up in front of college basketball fans across the country and test ourselves against some of the best teams in college basketball."
The 2019 Myrtle Beach Invitational will be MT's first multi-team event in the continental United States since the 2016 Challenge in Music City. The Raiders traveled to Honolulu in 2017 for the Diamond Head Classic and are set to tip off the 2018 Battle 4 Atlantis this Wednesday against No. 4 Virginia at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas.
"The prospect of being closer to home in this event next year is very exciting," McDevitt added. "We hope it will allow us to have a large following of Blue Raider fans in Myrtle Beach to share the experience with us just before the Thanksgiving holiday."
