Kermet improves to 9-1, but Raiders fall to FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Kim Kermet won at No. 3 singles and the Blue Raiders took an early lead by winning the doubles point, but Middle Tennessee dropped a 5-2 decision to Florida Gulf Coast.
Costanza Magazzini and Marta Peris Herrero won their doubles match on court three by a score of 6-1, and Lee Barnard paired with Maria Josefina Zehnder for a 6-4 win. Kermet and Zirilli were unable to finish their doubles match with a score of 5-5, but the Blue Raiders took a lead into singles play.
Magazzini and Herrero are now 2-0 as a doubles combo, with both wins coming at No. 3, and the win by Barnard and Zehnder is the first as a doubles pair.
The Eagles bounced back in singles to claim straight set wins in four consecutive matches and clinch the win over MT. Kermet was fifth to finish with a 6-3, 6-3 score on court three, moving her dual match record to 9-1 on the year. Lidia Burrows won her second set at No. 5, 6-2, but FGCU stopped the comeback bid by winning in the third set tiebreak.
MT returns to the Adams Tennis Complex for a pair of matches next weekend against Chattanooga (Feb. 23) and Tulane (Feb. 25).
