Netters at home twice this weekend
Match Notes
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After dropping a match last weekend on the road at FGCU, Middle Tennessee women's tennis is looking to get back in the win column this weekend with matches against Chattanooga and Tulane.
Both matches at the Adams Tennis Complex this weekend will be challenging, but the Blue Raiders have been hard at work since returning to Murfreesboro on Sunday.
"We've been competing against each other a lot this week at practice," MT head coach Charlie Ramsay said. "We've been playing sets out, and the girls have been focused. They've had good energy, and we're aware that this weekend is a pretty big weekend with two opportunities for wins at home."
Kim Kermet leads the charge for the Blue Raiders in singles with a 9-1 mark through the first 11 matches of the year. Lately, the junior has locked down the No. 3 spot in the lineup, as she is 5-1 on court three this season.
"Kim's leading us on and off the court," Ramsay added. "She's doing all the right things, and she deserves the success she's been getting so far this year."
Chattanooga cut MT's all-time series lead to 19-18 after last year's 4-2 win. Former LA Tech head coach Chad Camper is now in his second season in charge of the Mocs, and freshman Emma Van Hee is the team-leader in dual match singles wins with a 4-0 record. The Mocs are 4-2 on the season, with their only losses coming against Alabama and Clemson, both ranked teams.
In the second match of the weekend for the Blue Raiders, Tulane takes a 6-4 record into Murfreesboro, with three losses against SEC teams. Ivone Alvaro took all five of her wins in the dual match season at the No. 3 spot in the lineup, and she pairs with Laura Fabrizi at No. 2 doubles for a 6-2 record, also a team best. Tulane has played the same three doubles teams in every match so far this season posting a 16-9 record as a team.
"We're treating both matches like any other match. We're in our building, which helps, and this is a really great opportunity to get some wins," Ramsay said. "These are two quality opponents, but we've just got to execute."
Free MTSU towels will be given out on Friday, and there will be free T-shirts given out on Sunday. Admission is always free to MTSU tennis matches. Live stats will be available for both matches, and updates and information will be posted to Twitter, @MT_WomensTennis, and Facebook, MTSU Women's Tennis.
