MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee is preparing for two midweek contests against in-state opponents this week.
On Tuesday, the Blue Raiders will travel to Knoxville to face SEC foe Tennessee. They'll follow with a quick turnaround, as they host Tennessee Tech on Wednesday at Reese Smith Jr. Field.
Series: Tennessee leads Middle Tennessee 34-21
Despite the Volunteers leading the all-time series, Middle Tennessee won last year's contest in Knoxville, 7-4, in a game where the Blue Raider pitching staff held the Vols to just five hits.
After starting the young season coming out of the bullpen, junior pitcher A.J. Spencer will get the start on the mound, his first of 2018. Spencer made seven starts last season, compiling a 2-3 record.
Ryan Kemp went 1-for-3 with a double in the game against Tennessee last year. Additionally, he hit his first home run of this season on Sunday against Kent State.
First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on 100.5/101.9 FM.
Series: Middle Tennessee leads Tennessee Tech 86-34-1
The Blue Raiders triumphed over the Golden Eagles in both 2017 matchups. Manuel Lopez went a combined 4-for-9 in both games, including two home runs in the first matchup that Middle Tennessee won 18-7 in Cookeville. He also scored four total runs and pushed in three RBIs.
This season, TTU has fashioned a 4-2 record, including series wins over Little Rock and Illinois State. The Golden Eagles are averaging over 12 runs per game, much due to their 30-17 win over Illinois State that featured seven home runs.
First pitch in Reese Smith Jr. Field is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Middle Tennessee leadoff man LA Woodard is the high average man in the Blue Raider lineup, hitting .400 with five RBIs and eight runs scored. Austin Dennis is also swinging a hot bat with a .346 average and seven RBIs.
Dennis also had a 26-game streak where he reached base safely end on Friday against Fairleigh Dickinson.
