Blue Raiders hit the road for two matches in Virginia
Match Notes
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee's women's tennis team will be looking to extend its four-match win streak when it takes on Georgetown and No. 45 Old Dominion in a pair of matches in Norfolk, Virginia this weekend.
The Blue Raiders have won six of their last seven behind key performances from the bottom of the singles lineup. Five players have combined at the No. 5 and 6 singles spots for a 21-5 record as a team, and that has fueled MT's recent hot streak. Zani Barnard still owns a perfect singles record as a Blue Raider with a 9-0 mark, and Kim Kermet leads the team in singles wins with a 10-2 record.
As for MT's Saturday opponent, Georgetown brings a 1-7 record to the weekend that includes matches against the Monarchs and Blue Raiders. Their lone win of the season was by a score of 4-3 against Nova Southeastern on March 4. Doubles play is the strongpoint of the Hoyas, as they combine for a 12-5 record at No. 2 and 3 doubles, while only having a winning record in singles as a team on court six.
Old Dominion (12-4) will wrap up the Norfolk trip for the Blue Raiders on Sunday. The Monarchs boast four C-USA Athlete of the Week awards so far this season, which leads the league. Three different Monarchs have won the award, with sophomore Holly Hutchinson earning the honor twice. ODU has league wins over Florida Atlantic, Charlotte and Marshall heading into this weekend's match.
