Location: Murfreesboro, Tenn. @ Reese Smith Jr. Field
Projected Starting Pitcher:
LHP Jake Wyrick
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee hopes a big weekend will push them up the conference standings as they host UTSA for a weekend series in Reese Smith Jr. Field.
The Blue Raiders hope to carry the momentum of the midweek win over Austin Peay in the weekend, where they won 10-4, scoring 10 unanswered runs.
Currently, UTSA sits in fourth place in the Conference USA standings, while MT is just behind Rice for 9th place.
While only the top eight teams make the C-USA tournament, there's no guarantee who those teams will be. With four weekends left to play, the separation between the fourth place team and 10th place team is only 3.5 games.
If MT is to ascend the leader board, they'll need to continue to get major production from Austin Dennis and Aaron Aucker who have led the Blue Raider bats all season.
Dennis, who leads the conference in runs scored (45) and stolen bases (19), is also hitting a staggering .368 in 18 games against conference opponents.
Meanwhile, Aucker is just behind Dennis in conference average, hitting at a .324 clip. Aucker is also leading MT in most power categories such as doubles (15), home runs (9), total bases (98) and slugging percentage (.598).
Aucker also leads Conference USA in runs batted in, pushing 48 batters across the plate.
Having senior second baseman Ryan Kemp back in the lineup has been a welcomed site for Jim McGuire and the Blue Raiders as well. The Columbia, Tenn. native is hitting .461 (12-for-26) with a seven-game hitting streak in the seven games since he returned to the starting lineup.
For the Roadrunners, their top three hitters are all swatting at a .322 clip or better. Junior infielder Bryan Arias leads all UTSA batters with a .342 average. He's also scored 55 times, and pushed in 25 RBIs.
First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., senior LHP Jake Wyrick is expected to start on the mound for MT. Fans who cannot attend are encouraged to tune in to 100.5/101.9 WGNS to hear the call.
