Raiders Set for NCAA East Regional

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee Track and Field team prepares for the 2018 NCAA Outdoor East Regional in Tampa, Fla. this week. The Regional will be hosted at the USF Track and Field Stadium from Thursday, May 24 to Saturday, May 26.

Adeniji Adedamola will be the first Blue Raider to take the track on Thursday, competing in the first round of the men's 400-meter event. Likewise, Joycelyn Assafuah will compete in the first round of the women's 400-meter, following the men's race.

Meanwhile, Qetuwrah Abdullah-Muhammad will take the field on Thursday to compete in the women's first round of the high jump event.

Abike Egbeniyi inked the highest seed in the Regionals for the Blue Raiders inking a second place seed in the women's 800-meter race. Last time out, Egbeniyi inked a new Conference USA record at the Outdoor Championships in the 800-meter race. Egbeniyi will be the final Blue Raider to compete in a first round event on Thursday.

On Friday, Assafuah, Adedamola and Egbeniyi will return to the track to compete in the quarterfinals, if they qualify from their respective races on Thursday.
Edidiong Odiong will also take the track on Friday to compete in the first round of the women's 200-meter dash. Odiong enters the competition as the C-USA title champion in the event and receiving the C-USA Freshman of the Year accolade. Similarly, Geoffry Cheruiyot will compete in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase quarterfinals to round off the events for the Blue Raiders on Friday.

The final day of the NCAA East Regional will commence with field events as Jacob Patten competes in the first round of the men's high jump. C-USA Male Freshman of the Year, Isaac Odugbesan, will also take the field alongside Patten to compete in the first round of the men's shot put event.

The track events will start with the quarterfinal for the women's 4x100 relay. Following the relay event, Odiong will compete in the quarterfinal for the 200-meter event, if she qualifies during Friday's action.

The NCAA East Regional action will conclude on Saturday on the track with the men and women's 4x400 relays.
