Volleyball to Host Blue Raider Bash

MURFREESBORO, TENN. – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team is set to host the Blue Raider Bash this Friday and Saturday in the Alumni Memorial Gym.
The Blue Raiders (1-2) will host Austin Peay (3-0), Troy (2-1) and Stetson (3-0) in Murfreesboro for their bi-annual bash this weekend. The team will face the Governors for their opening match on Friday at 7 p.m. before rounding off the weekend with a doubleheader on Saturday, competing against Troy at 1:00 p.m. and Stetson at 7:00 p.m.

Middle Tennessee enters this weekend with a win under its belt, taking down the Robert Morris Colonials the previous weekend at the Catamount Volleyball Classic. The Blue Raiders held the Colonial offense to a .103 hitting percent, only allowing Robert Morris 38 kills in the four-set match.
Tankesley, The Defender
Junior Brienna Tankesley was the leading Blue Raider defender last weekend, recording 66 digs during her 11-set outing at the Classic. Tankesley enters the Blue Raider Bash averaging 6.00 digs pet set, the second-best average in Conference USA.
Valdez and Sumdia, The Freshmen Duo
Freshmen pair, Julia Valdez and Sarah Sumida opened their Middle Tennessee collegiate career at the Catamount Volleyball Classic last weekend. As freshmen, the duo is the top-preforming Blue Raiders in their positions.
As a middle blocker, Valdez inked 21 kills in three matches, hitting on a .326 clip, one of the best hitting percentages on the team. The Midlothian, Texas native averages 1.91 kills and .36 blocks per set for the Blue Raiders.
Meanwhile, setter Sarah Sumida moved into the starting setter role for Middle Tennessee in two matches last weekend. Sumida recorded 93 assists in her three-match outing while adding 24 digs and a kill for Middle Tennessee.
Looking Ahead
After hosting the Blue Raider Bash this weekend, Middle Tennessee will enter its longest road streak of the season, traveling to its next nine matches. The team will return to the Alumni Memorial Gym on Sunday, Sept. 30 to host Southern Miss at their Camper Appreciation night.
