Women's Tennis Opens Season at Hoosier Classic

Middle Tennessee Women's Tennis will open their season this weekend coming off a program-best finish in the Conference USA Tournament. The Blue Raiders finished 19-8 last season and reached the C-USA semifinals for the first time in program history. All but one athlete from last year's team is back for this season under the new leadership of Head Coach Tayo Bailey-Duvall. The season begins with this weekend's Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Ind. Players Attending: Lidia Burrows, Costanza Magazzini, Luisa Zirilli
Tournament History
This will be MT's first match in the state of Indiana since October of 2015 when they competed in the ITA Regional hosted by Purdue. Costanza Magazzini won a singles match as a freshman in just her second collegiate competition.
Players to watch
Lidia Burrows – Burrows mostly played singles for the Blue Raiders last season, compiling a 13-9 singles record in the spring which was second best on the team. Highlights of her 2017-18 campaign were winning her flight at the Samford Fall Invitational and two separate four match win streaks in the spring.
Costanza Magazzini – Magazzini impressed last fall when she won her flight at the Samford Fall Invitational by winning all three matches without giving up a single set. Now back for her senior season, she'll play a big role for the Blue Raiders again after taking the top spot in the lineup for much of the spring season.
Luisa Zirilli – In her Junior season, Zirilli went 20-12 in singles and posted an identical record in doubles. The senior will look to pick up where she left off in the spring when she went 11-5 in singles matches.

"I am excited and looking forward to opening our fall season at the Hoosier Classic," said Head Coach Tayo Bailey-Duvall. "We have a great group of ladies, who are very talented and passionate. It has been a pleasure getting to know them and work with them over the past few weeks. I believe this will be a good tournament for us."
