PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – On the verge of November and with temperatures dropping in Murfreesboro, the Middle Tennessee Men's Golf team has made its way to the Bahamas to compete in the first annual White Sands Invitational.
The three-day, 54-hole event, hosted by the University of Houston on the Par 72, 7,159-yard Ocean Club course at the Atlantis resort, tees off Friday with a shotgun start at 7:00 a.m. CT.
The challenging 15-team field features some of the nation's top teams, including No. 1 Wake Forest, No. 2 SMU, No. 22 Arkansas and No. 39 Houston. In addition to Conference USA foes LA Tech and UAB, the Blue Raiders will also face Florida State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Illinois State, Miami (Ohio), Northern Illinois, Samford and Wisconsin.
Middle Tennessee will field a lineup fairly similar to its last outing and much of the fall, with the only change from the Little Rock Invitational seeing freshman Michael Barnard re-enter the lineup.
Junior Ilari Saulo, senior Tanner Owens and freshman Mattias Varjun have each remained in the lineup throughout the fall while sophomore Palmer Sadlowski is making his second consecutive appearance in the Blue Raider lineup.
Freshman Steven Haremski has also made the trip to Paradise Island and will compete as an individual for the third time this semester.
"It's the last tournament of the fall and I like the strides we have made to this point," Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "The goal this week is to have it all come together. We have talked about getting five balls in play and trying to eliminate big numbers that have stopped us from finishing where we want, so fingers crossed we turn that around this week."
McEntire's lineup will begin the tournament on holes 7-10 alongside LA Tech and Georgia Southern, while Haremski will tee off on hole 15.
