VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Sophomore Madison Smith continued to lead the way on day two of the Princess Anne Invitational as Middle Tennessee gained a spot on the team leaderboard with 18 holes still to play on Sunday.
The Blue Raiders climbed as many as four places during the round, but a few late stumbles left the squad with a 15-over par (295) score and 10th place ranking after two days of competition.
"It was a pretty rough day out there with the wind and cool temperatures like we haven't really seen yet," Head Coach Chris Adams said. "We didn't finish as strong as I would have liked but we were facing really tough finishing holes into the wind today."
Smith struggled down the stretch, but managed to post one of the better rounds of the day for the Blue Raiders at 2-over par 72 and sits in 11th at 1-over par on the week.
Junior Sophie Burks remains the second ranked Blue Raider on the individual leaderboard after a 4-over par 74 puts her drops her to 5-over and tied for 27th for the tournament.
Freshman Molly Bebelaar turned in a 3-over par 73 on Saturday and matched Smith and Burks with a team-high three birdies in the round.
Caudill sisters Caroline and Catherine posted scores of 6-over 76 and 9-over 79, respectively, while Savannah Quick improved drastically on her day one score with a team-low 1-over par 71 in the individual spot.
"Madison and Molly played pretty well and Sophie hung in there with a solid round, but struggled a little bit to get up and down today," Adams added. "Savannah also came back strong with a great round today."
Sunday's final round begins at 8:00 a.m. ET with Catherine Caudill going first for the Blue Raiders at 9:06 on the 10th hole. She will be followed by Caroline Caudill, Bebelaar, Burks and Smith with Quick teeing off right behind her teammates at 10:01.
