Cross Country Set for C-USA Championships

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.—The Middle Tennessee cross country teams are headed to Bowling Green, Ky. this weekend for the 2019 Conference USA Championships Saturday morning. Western Kentucky will be hosting the event as 11 men's and 13 women's teams compete for the title, and hope to move on to the NCAA Regionals.

Season at a Glance
The Blue Raider men's team has jumped two spots to No. 15, the highest in program history, in the week five USTFCCCA Coaches' Poll. They have only moved up since the start of the season when they were placed at No. 26 after week one. The Blue Raiders have finished first at all four meets they have participated in this season, including the Memphis Twilight Classic, Commodore Classic, the Greater Louisville Classic and most recently, the Arturo Barrios Invitational.
Jacob Choge and Kigen Chemadi continue to rank nationally, with Choge placing at No. 8 and Chemadi moving up one spot from last week to No. 9 in the FloTrack Rankings. The Kenyan duo have placed Top-3 in every meet this season. Most recently, the Blue Raiders competed in the Arturo Barrios Invitational when Choge and Chemadi placed first and second overall, leading their team to a first place title for the fourth time this season.
The women's team has also shown extraordinary progress this season, placing third in Memphis, seventh at the Commodore Classic, claiming gold in Louisville and second in College Station. Juniors Eusila Chepkemei and Joice Jebor finished second and fourth overall at the Arturo Barrios Invitational. The women are currently ranked fifth in the South Region.
The Opposition
There will be 11 men's and 13 women's teams competing Saturday morning in the championship. Those teams include Charlotte, FIU, Florida Atlantic, Louisiana Tech, Marshall, North Texas, Rice UTEP, UTSA, host WKU, and then Southern Miss and UAB who have women's teams only.
Charlotte – The 49ers men's team is currently ranked eighth in the Southeast Region after finishing Top 5 in five out of their six events this season.
UTEP – The UTEP men and women are both ranked 15th in the Mountain Region. The women have not dropped below eighth place, and the men had not fallen below ninth place, until they recently finished 31st in the NCAA Pre Nationals.
Rice – The Owl men are ranked fifth in the South Central Region and the women come in at fourth.
North Texas – The Mean Green men are also ranked in the South Central Region, placing at No. 11.
