Blue Raiders battle with one of toughest fields in collegiate golf
RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – Middle Tennessee men's golf returns to action Sunday after a quick trip home from the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational earlier this week as they tee off in the Puerto Rico Classic hosted by Purdue.
The Blue Raiders are one of 15 teams in the highly-touted field that will be competing at the Par 72, 6,902-yard Rio Mar Country Club River Course.
MT and host Purdue are going up against the likes of No. 4 Georgia Tech, No. 5 Alabama, No. 12 Clemson, No. 13 Oklahoma, No. 21 Georgia, No. 28 NC State, No. 31 Marquette, No. 40 Iowa as well as East Carolina, Maryland, Ohio State, UNC Greensboro and Virginia Tech.
Middle Tennessee will enter the 27th playing of the Puerto Rico Classic with the same 5-man lineup that earned them a second place finish in Utah to start the spring.
Newcomer Cooper Sears, the reigning Conference USA Golfer of the Week, will tee off on hole 11 chasing teammates Tanner Owens, Palmer Sadlowski, James Beckner and Marcus Byrd.
The shotgun start at Rio Mar will take place at 7:00 a.m. CT. Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.
