FRISCO, Texas. – The Middle Tennessee women's basketball team gears up for the Conference USA basketball championships hosted at the Ford Center at the Star.
The Lady Raiders enter the contest as the three seed in the championships, earning a first-round bye. Middle Tennessee will enter quarterfinal action on Thursday, March 14, playing against the winner of Marshall and UTEP at 2:00 p.m. at the Star.
Lady Raider Conference Tournament History
The Blue Raiders have won seven of its 15 conference tournament titles under head coach Rick Insell. Overall, Middle Tennessee has appeared in 22 championship games with a 15-7 all-time record in the championship contest. The Lady Raiders are 30-7 overall in their opening game of conference tournament play.
Blue Raiders Earn Post-Season Conference Awards
Senior A'Queen Hayes was named the C-USA Newcomer of the Year and was honored as a first team All C-USA performer following her sterling campaign in her first and only season as a Blue Raider. Hayes was the only C-USA player to lead her team in scoring, rebounding and assists.
Taylor Sutton was named the C-USA Freshman of the Year while earning a spot on the All-Freshman team after turning in a breakout campaign. Sutton was a four-time C-USA Freshman of the Week honoree while being named the National Freshman of the week by the USBWA.
Senior Alex Johnson earned a spot on the All C-USA second-team this season, marking the third consecutive season the Murfreesboro, Tenn. product has earned all-conference honors. Johnson in Top 10 in four categories in the C-USA statistical categories.
Middle Tennessee Top 25 Nationally for Scoring Defense
The Lady Raiders are 15th nationally in scoring defense, allowing just 56.5 points per game. Middle Tennessee has held 18 foes to less than 60 points and are 16-2 in those games.
