MT secures the series win over UTSA
3/17/2019 3:35:00 PM | Baseball
Freeman's homerun was just what the Blue Raiders needed, as they held onto just a two-run lead heading into the 8th inning. The homerun by Freeman was his second in as many days and it pushed the Blue Raider ahead by five runs at that point.
But the Roadrunners came back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs to bring it back within three runs. But a sacrifice fly by Brycen Thomas and an RBI single by Darien Prewett extended the lead back to five to give the Blue Raiders plenty of run support.
Left-hander David Zoz had a strong start for the Blue Raiders. The junior went 5.2 innings, giving up just two earned runs and striking out three. Tyler Holcombe came in relief of Zoz, going 2.1 innings. Scheldon Paulk shut down the Roadrunners in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win.
MT grabbed the lead early, scoring four runs in the second inning after UTSA took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Tanner Parker drove in his first run in his Blue Raider career, driving in Thomas on a single to left. JT Mabry and Aaron Antonini would follow with an RBI single themselves.
Both Nick Carnevale and Darien Prewett led the Blue Raiders in hits, with three.
