Round 2 Results
JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – Middle Tennessee closed out the first day of the Briar's Creek Invitational Monday evening at 17-over par through 36 holes after rounds of 8-over 296 and 10-over 298.
The Blue Raiders sit within 12 strokes of the five teams directly ahead of them – five of which are ranked in the Top 50 nationally – in No. 22 Clemson (+6), No. 27 Illinois (+7), Kansas (+8), No. 20 Furman (+13), No. 50 Penn State (+14), No. 45 East Carolina (+14).
"We definitely had stretches of really good golf today, but we got a little aggressive on some putts," head coach Chris Adams said. "The greens are quick but flawless. We'll need to eliminate some of our mental mistakes that led to big numbers today."
Sophomore Sophie Burks fired a 1-under 71 in the opening round before senior Hanley Long matched the score in second round as the pair lead MT into the third and final round on Tuesday.
Long is even par (73-71=144) and is currently tied for 14th and looking to move up for her fifth Top 10 finish of the season while Burks (71-73=144) joins her senior teammate in the tie for 14th.
Jenna Burris is 10-over par (76-78=154), Kailey Collier is 11-over par (76-79=155) and Catherine Caudill is 14-over par (82-76=158) with 18 holes left to play on Tuesday.
Middle Tennessee will look to make a move up the leaderboard in the final round Tuesday with 9:00 a.m. ET tee times off of holes 13, 14 and 15.
"Hanley and Sophie played solid today and still left some shots out there," Adams added. "I feel good that we will come out tomorrow and give it all we have and continue to improve."
The Blue Raiders will be paired with Boston College and Georgetown in round three and live scoring will be available at GolfStat.com.
