CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee (8-16) found trouble scoring runs Tuesday night in Clarksville, losing the midweek matchup to Austin Peay (12-10) by a score of 10-3.
"We went from Saturday having our best game of the year, to three days later having our worst game of the year," Head coach Jim Toman said. "We're a little beat up and tired and this game caught up to us."
Austin Peay gained an early lead, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings. Only three of those runs were earned however as the Blue Raiders committed three errors in the first inning. The Governors would tack on three more runs in the sixth inning to push their lead to six runs, and then a single run in the eighth inning.
The Blue Raiders struck immediately to begin the game when JT Mabry led off with a single to right field before Aaron Antonini smashed a double to bring him in. They would tack on two more runs in the second inning when Antonini walked to bring in Tanner Parker and Drew Huff lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Darrell Freeman Jr.
JT Mabry led the team with three hits while Brycen Thomas had a pair. Antonini drove in two of the Blue Raiders three runs.
The Blue Raiders used five pitchers, with Tyler Holcombe going the furthest with 2.1 innings pitcher.
Middle Tennessee will travel north to West Virginia this weekend for a three-game series against Marshall. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 2 p.m.
