Lady Raiders Hold Off ETSU in Road Match

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee's women's tennis took an early 2-0 lead but ETSU knotted it up at 2-2 before Zani Barnard and Marta Peris Herrero put it away on Friday afternoon.
The Blue Raiders took the first point in the match by winning at No. 1 and 3 doubles. Costanza Magazzini and Kim Kermet started MT off strong with a dominate 6-2 win. The No. 3 duo of Marta Peris Herrero and Luisa Zirilli clinched the doubles point for Middle Tennessee with an easy 6-2 win. The Barnard twins were not able to finish but they led 5-2 before the point was clinched.
ETSU responded strongly by winning back-to-back singles matches after Lidia Burrows gave the Blue Raiders a 2-0 lead with 6-4, 6-4 win. With the score knotted at 2-2, Zani Barnard came in clutch by coming back from a first set defeat to take her match in third set on a dramatic tiebreaker (4-6, 6-2, 7-5). Marta Peris Herrero continued her hot streak as she recovered from a second set defeat to sweep her last set 6-0 to give her fifth-straight win and the Blue Raiders their seventh win of the season.
