MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's women's tennis squad sweeps Conference USA rival WKU to improve to 10-11 and 2-3 in C-USA on Friday afternoon.
The Blue Raiders started the afternoon in the right way with Lidia Burrows and Lee Barnard easily give the Blue Raiders the doubles point, 6-2 on court two. Luisa Zirilli and Marta Peris Herrero won by forfeit on court three. Costanza Magazzini and Zani Barnard did not finish but left leading 5-2.
MT kept things rolling right on into singles play. The Lady Raiders only allowed four games through all of the first sets and eight in the entire match. Sophomore Lee Barnard did not have an opponent to play so she received the forfeit win giving MT the 2-0 lead, she has won back-to-back. Marta Peris Herrero put together a dominate performance not surrendering a single game with a win over the Hilltopper's Kyla Dilger. It was the ninth singles win of the year for Marta and the 44th singles win of her Middle Tennessee career.
Simultaneously, Zani Barnard and Luisa Zirilli each claimed a victory on three and four, putting the Blue Raiders up 5-0 and giving them the guaranteed win. Burrows and Magazzini finished it out to complete the 7-0 sweep.
