Boca Raton, Fla.- The Middle Tennessee softball team lost the final game of the three game set to FAU 8-6. The Raiders (25-18, C-USA 9-5) made an effort to fight back late in the game, but very held off by FAU (18-23, C-USA 5-10).
The Raiders struck first in the top of the first inning on a Kirstyn Cuccia single to right that plated Summer Burgess and Sydney Heath, pushing the Raiders to a 2-0 lead.
FAU would have a better bottom half of the inning though, scoring four runs on four hits. FAU continued their solid offensive play into the second adding another three run on three more hits, opening up their lead to 7-2.
The Raiders worked their way back into the game, with some help from the FAU pitching staff. Owl pitchers walked nine batters and plated one Raider run in the game.
In the fifth inning, Kaylyn Slatter pinched hit for Claire Smith with the bases loaded and hit a bases clearing triple to cut the FAU lead to 7-6.
FAU would add a run after Amber Baldwin hit a batter with the bases loaded to make the Owl lead 8-6.
The Raiders will return home Friday for a series with Western Kentucky. The Series will begin with a doubleheader on Friday starting at 2:00. The final game of the three game set will be on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
