Round 2 Results
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Blue Raider Women's Golf rebounded on Tuesday with a solid round of 4-over par 292, shaving nine strokes off its score from round one to move up two spots at the Conference USA Championship.
Middle Tennessee's 4-over par round was the fourth best of the day at Verandah Club, behind only tournament leaders Old Dominion, UTSA and Charlotte.
"I think we came out today with great attitudes knowing that we can make a move and we had perfect conditions again," head coach Chris Adams stated.
The Blue Raiders now sit 17-over (301-292=591) for the week and are in a tie for seventh place alongside rival WKU and just one stroke back of UTEP.
Freshman Catherine Caudill provided the spark for the Raiders, starting the day with a birdie on 10 that propelled her to a team-low round of 2-under par 70.
"I'm very proud of the way Catherine stepped up," Adams said. "She was in a groove early and when you can get that kind of round out of a freshman it's a nice boost. Everyone on our team is capable of going under par and her doing so today will give everyone that confidence."
Senior Jenna Burris, who matched her rookie teammate with subpar rounds of 78 on Monday, bounced back in a big way as well with a 1-over par 73 on day two after finishing the day with 13 consecutive pars.
The elder Caudill sister, sophomore Caroline, pitched in to the improved team round with a 2-over par 74 on day two after starting the tournament with a 76 on day one.
"Jenna and Caroline both bounced back with better rounds today as well," Adams added. "We still had some bad holes that we need to correct, but we made a lot more putts today and I like the effort that we put in to post a much better score today."
Senior Hanley Long battled through some hiccups early in the day to get back to 1-over before setbacks on two of her final three holes left her turning in a scorecard of 3-over 75 for the round.
Sophomore Sophie Burks had an up-and-down day of her own to enter the clubhouse at 5-over par 77 for the day.
Middle Tennessee will tee off on the 10th hole on Wednesday alongside WKU and FIU with Burris leading the way at 8:50 a.m. ET.
