Raiders Set to Compete at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – The Middle Tennessee track and field teams gear up to compete in the 43rd annual Penn Relays this weekend. The team will compete in 12 relay events and 10 individual events in Philadelphia.
Raider History at the Penn Relays
The Blue Raiders have an extensive history at the Penn Relays, claiming three champion titles in the college men's 4x200 relays in 1993, 1994, and 2018. Similarly, Middle Tennessee has claimed one Athlete of the Meet honor in 2015 from John Ampomah.
Last Time Out | War Eagle Invitational
Brian Rono claimed the champion title in the men's 1,500-meter invitational. The Blue Raider freshman notched his first-place title, crossing the line with a time of 3:53.85. Rono's time marks his second-best finish of the season, as he claimed his career-best at the Tennessee Relays with a time of 3:52.81.
Middle Tennessee rounded off the second day of the War Eagle Invitational, notching 14 top-finishes, including four first-place finishes from Abike Egbeniyi, Eusila Chepkemei, Tre'Von Sanders and the men's relay team.
Egbeniyi earned the War Eagle Invitational champion title in the women's 400-meter race on Saturday. The senior finished with a time of 52.92, finishing a second faster than the second-place finisher.
Meanwhile, in the women's 800-meter event, sophomore Chepkemei notched the second champion title for the Blue Raiders on Saturday. Chepkemei crossed the line first, with a time of 2:08.31, a new career-best. On the men's side, Sanders notched gold in the 800-meter event. The junior claimed first-place with a time of 1:50.52.
As a team, Lamarco Petty, Jaquez Torian, Tre'Von Sanders and Willington Wright claimed first-place in the men's 4x400-meter relay on Saturday. The team claimed first, crossing the line with a time of 3:07.83.
