MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Coming off a career outing at this week's Memphis Women's Intercollegiate, Middle Tennessee senior Hanley Long has been named Conference USA Co-Female Golfer of the Week.
Long fired a 7-under par 206 completed with a 5-under par 66 in the final round to take second place in the field of 75 golfers, just one stroke back of the individual champion.
The 54-hole total and third round score are both career lows for Long, but made their marks on the Blue Raider record books as well. The 66 carded on Tuesday matches the second lowest round in program history while the three-round total of 206 went down as a new Middle Tennessee record, besting the 207 shot by Samantha Gotcher at the 2015 Conference USA Championship.
The Clarksville, Tenn., native's individual runner-up finish marked her fourth Top 5 and fifth Top 10 in nine events this season. Long now boasts seven Top 5 finishes in her career.
The stellar senior was one of just two golfers in the field to post two rounds in the 60s, also turning in a 3-under par 68 in round two, and has now carded 30 rounds of par or better across her four seasons as a Blue Raider.
Long led the entire field at Ridgeway Country Club in Par 4 scoring (-3, 3.89) and Par 5 scoring (-4, 4.67) and was sixth in Par 3 scoring (E, 3.00) and third in total birdies on the week with 13.
The record-breaking performance helped the Blue Raiders earn a second place team finish with a 7-over par (859) scorecard on the week.
The C-USA weekly honor is the fourth of Long's career and second this season, and is a timely momentum builder as the Blue Raiders next event is the Conference USA Championship in Fort Myers.
