Raiders Split Doubleheader with UAB

Murfreesboro, Tenn.- The Middle Tennessee softball team split a doubleheader with C-USA opponent UAB. The Raiders (23-17, C-USA 7-4) were led by pitcher Corrina Dodd, who pitched pitch 11 innings against the Blazers (15-22, C-USA 5-9) Saturday afternoon.
In game one of Saturday's doubleheader, the Raiders quickly found themselves in a hole after the Blazers scored five runs in the first three innings.
The Raiders would answer back in the bottom half of the third, scoring on a pair of Blazer errors and a bases loaded walk, cutting UAB's lead to 5-3.
In the bottom of the fourth Summer Burgess brought Savannah Freeman home from third on a single to center field cutting the Blazer lead to 5-4. Burgess would finish the game with three hits, two runs, and one RBI. The junior leads C-USA in hits this season with 49 thus far.
Brooke McClure would tie the game on a sacrifice fly to center field and Jocelynn De La Cruz would bring a run in and would reach on a Blazer error giving the Raiders a 6-5 lead.
Corrina Dodd would shut down the Blazer offense pitching the last four innings, allowing no runs, on two hits, and picked up one strikeout on her way to earning the win.
In game two the Blazers jumped out to a 3-0 lead through the first four innings. Despite out hitting UAB the Raiders couldn't translate those hits in to runs.
Kirstyn Cuccia collected the only Raider RBI scoring Lexi Cushing from second on a single to right field, cutting the Blazer lead to 3-1.
Corrina Dodd rolled over her releif effort in game one, to start game two and pitched a total of 11 innings on Saturday. Dodd wouldn't be as fortunate in game two picking up the loss.
The Raiders will play the rubber match of the three game set with UAB on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
