Raiders Eliminated From C-USA Tournament by North Texas

Birmingham, Ala.- The Middle Tennessee softball team dropped their second game of the C-USA Tournament to North Texas, eliminating them from the tournament. The Raiders were led once again by freshmen Kailey Ahlstrom, who started her fourth consecutive game for the Raiders.
The Raiders found themselves in a hole in the third inning, falling behind the Mean Green, 2-0, on a bases clearing single from Lacy Gregory.
Middle Tennessee would respond in the fifth inning off a Samantha Valentine double that scored Savannah Freeman from second, cutting the Mean Green lead to 2-1. In the next at bat, Summer Burgess drove in Valentine with a double of her own and tying the game 2-2 Burgess was thrown out trying to stretch her double into a triple, thus ending the Raider rally.
North Texas broke the tie in the bottom of the fifth, on a Gregory RBI-single, taking a 3-2 lead. Gregory finished the game with two hits, in three at bats, and collected three RBI.
The Mean Green extended their lead on a sac fly to right field in the sixth inning, pushing their lead to 4-2.
Lefty Kailey Ahlstrom pitched 23 innings in the four game stretch for the Raiders. Ahlstrom also collected 15 strikeouts, had a 1.83 ERA, tossed three complete games, and had a 2-2 record in the conference tournament.
Junior transfer, Sydney Heath had team highs in batting average (.545), hits (six), and on base percentage (.583). The right fielder was perfect in the field (1.000 fielding percentage) and had 11 putouts, including a number of diving plays throughout the tournament.
Sophomore Jocelynn De La Cruz led the Raiders with three RBI and had the two biggest hits for the girls in blue. De La Cruz hit a two-RBI triple to tie the game against UTEP and bunted in the only run of the game in the win over WKU.
Savannah Freeman remands perfect on the season in stolen bases. Freeman stole her 16th base of the season in as many attempts, in the game agaist North Texas.
The Raiders concluded the season with a 29-27 (.509) record and were 11-13 during conference play.
