BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Blue Raiders (18-35, 11-17) lost a heart breaker in extra innings, losing 5-4 to FAU (35-18, 20-8) on Thursday night in Boca Raton.
FAU had the tying run at second base with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning when a ground ball deep in the hole between third base and shortstop was fielded by Christian. Christian made the throw to first base that was just a tad late, while the runner at second base never slowed down around third and scored the winning run on a play at the plate.
The Blue Raiders had a chance to end the game in the bottom of the ninth leading 4-3, but a two-out RBI single drove in the tying run.
Left hander David Zoz had a spectacular start for MT in his third start against a C-USA opponent. Zoz went his furthest of the season, going 6.1 innings and striking out a career high seven batters.
Myles Christian got the scoring going immediately, stroking a leadoff home run to right field. It was the first leadoff homerun by a Blue Raiders since LA Woodard did so last season. Christian finished with two hits.
Brett Stratinsky drove in a pair of runs with a sac fly in the first inning to score Blake Benefield, and an RBI base hit in the third inning to score Aaron Antonini.
What's Next?
The Blue Raiders return to action tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m. Lefty Peyton Wigginton will get the start for MT.
