Comeback falls short against FAU
5/17/2019 9:32:00 PM | Baseball
With two outs in the top of the ninth, Darrell Freeman Jr. crushed a two-run home run to bring the FAU lead down to just one run. But it was too little, too late as the Blue Raiders grounded out to end the game.
Myles Christian led the game off the same way he did last night, with a lead off bomb to get the Blue Raiders an immediate lead. Four batters late, Brett Stratinsky delivered a two-run opposite field blast to give MT a quick 3-0 lead. But the Owls would respond with three runs of their own on four hits in the bottom half of the inning.
Florida Atlantic would tack on three more runs in the next two innings to take their final lead. But the Blue Raiders weren't finished. AJ Spencer came around to score in the top of the eighth on a Brycen Thomas base hit to left field to make it a two-run game. But the Owls would pick up their biggest run of the game, a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth to regain their three-run lead.
Freeman's two-run home run was third of the season.
Both Brycen Thomas and Brett Stratinsky paced the team offensively with three hits apiece. Stratisnky was responsible for three of the Blue Raiders runs.
Miami native Andy Rivera was used in relief tonight in front of many of his family and friends. The senior went 2.1 innings, striking out three batters without allowing a hit.
Tonight's loss eliminated the Blue Raiders from a chance in the C-USA tournament.
What's next?
The Blue Raiders finish the season tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
