MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Let's face it. You try your best to eat a healthy, balanced diet. But after a long day under the hot-summer sun, it's nice to plop down in your favorite recliner and enjoy a nice dessert while your favorite tv show echoes in the background.
Every once in a while, that's exactly what Middle Tennessee defensive tackle Rakavian Poydras likes to do to reward himself for the hard work he does in the weight room and on the field over the summer.
His dessert of choice is a concoction he came up with on his own: the creamy bun.
"I got the idea from a dessert at Johnny's Big Burger in Clarksville," Poydras said. "My grandma gave me some pointers and I've kind of tried different things on my own from there and came up with what I do now."
Poydras warns connoisseurs of his glaze-filled dessert to proceed with caution because it's hard to put down once you take the first bite.
"I definitely wouldn't advise eating more than one of these per week," Poydras said with a chuckle.
The man they call "KV," who originally hails from Louisiana, has been to his fair share of crawfish boils. Though one of his lifelong dreams is to become a chef, it's his famous creamy bun that he enjoys to make for friends and teammates alike.
Next time you find yourself looking for a sweet treat to help you wind down at the end of the day, look no further than the Creamy Bun.
---------------------------
What you'll need:
1 honey bun
1 cooking pan
1 spatula
1 tablespoon of butter
1 tablespoon of brown sugar
1 mixing bowl
1 tablespoon of cinnamon
1 scoop of ice cream
1 24-ounce bottle of chocolate syrup
Instructions: Place cooking pan onto the stove with the heat setting on medium-low to medium. Take the honey bun and place it in the pan, heating each end up evenly for about five minutes per side. While the honey bun warms up, take a tablespoon of butter and place it in the microwave for 15 seconds. Once the butter is melted, take a tablespoon of brown sugar and mix it with the butter as the honey bun nears it's time to be flipped. Before flipping the honey bun, pour one tablespoon of the melted butter in an even, circular motion until the surface of the honey bun is covered. Flip the honey bun and repeat the process. Once both sides are done heating up, remove the honey bun from the pan and onto a plate. Take one scoop of an ice cream of your choice and place it on the center of the honey bun. Add a dusting of cinnamon to the scoop of ice cream and drizzle chocolate syrup down your newly created mountain of goodness. Serve hot.
