MT falls to Lipscomb 4-1 in exhibition
MURFREESBORO, TN – Middle Tennessee finished the preseason Friday night, falling 4-1 in an exhibition match against the Lipscomb Bison.
After a tightly contested first half the Blue Raiders were tied 1-1. However, three second half goals by the Bison gave them a 4-1 win in the first match of the year at Dean Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium.
It was clear that tonight's match was an exhibition as head coach Ashton Rhoden made a number of substitutions. It was the perfect opportunity to see the depth that this team offers and work out the last issues before the Blue Raiders open up their season next week.
While the score line may not reflect it, the Raiders had its fair share of chances after putting six shots on goal. Junior forward Peyton DePriest found herself with a nice opportunity after beating the keeper with some fancy footwork but put the ball just over the crossbar.
Sophomore midfielder Hannah Tillett put away the only goal of the night for Middle Tennessee 19 minutes into the match. The goal came from about 30 yards out and blew by the Bison keeper into the top left corner.
MTSU has plenty to look forward to this upcoming season and will be back at Dean Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium on Sunday August 25, against Austin Peay.
Next Match
The Blue Raiders will officially start the 2019 season next Thursday, August 22 at The University of Indiana-Evansville. Kickoff will be at 7:00.
