MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee cross country teams will travel a short distance to Nashville on Saturday for the Commodore Classic hosted by Vanderbilt University.
"We're looking forward to a little bit better competition this weekend at the Commodore Classic. Still trying to get the team unity and mindset for bigger races to come."
In their last outing, the men's team placed first at the Twilight Classic in Memphis, with four Blue Raiders finishing in the top-five. Kigen Chemadi placed first overall followed by Jacob Choge (second), Thobile Mosito (third) and freshman Hillary Kimaiyo (fourth).
The women's team placed third overall, only five points behind the nationally-ranked Ole Miss team. Pamela Kosgei and Joice Jeber led the team, finishing first and second overall.
"The women will get to see a few Conference-USA teams, so we can see how our progress is coming," Keith said. "They will also get a chance to feel the NCAA Championship distance of a 6K."
Middle Tennessee swept the first Conference-USA Cross Country Athlete of the Week awards, with Chemadi and Kosgei both claiming weekly honors for their top performances in Memphis.
The men and women will both jump up in distance this weekend with the men racing an 8K and the women racing a 6K.
