Blue Raiders home Wednesday and Saturday this week
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The fall softball season will be long past the halfway point after Middle Tennessee plays host to Volunteer State and Trevecca at Blue Raider Softball Stadium this week.
Vol State will make its way to Murfreesboro Wednesday for a 5 p.m. first pitch, and the Blue Raiders will cap the week by taking on Trevecca Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Pioneers were 28-18 in the spring and saw their season end in the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Tournament. Many new faces will be in the Vol State dugout this season, as only five members of last year's team returns, including two that did not play in 2019.
Trevecca will be MT's first non-junior college opponent in the fall season. The Trojans boasted a 31-16 record in the spring and return the only four players that played in all 47 games last season. MaKray Odom led her team in hits (100), batting average (.556) and stolen bases (50-50), while being one of two Trojans to start in every game.
Halfway through the fall season, Summer Burgess and Claire Smith lead all Blue Raiders with seven hits apiece. Newcomers Kaylee Richetto and Kelci Hill trail close behind with six hits each. In the circle, freshman Juliana Lane has led all MT pitchers in appearances (4), ERA (1.56) and opponent batting average (.071).
