Raiders Draw in Physical Conference Battle
9/26/2019 10:16:00 PM | Women's Soccer
MUFREESBORO, Tenn. – Not even extra time could help decide the Blue Raiders conference match-up against Rice, as the match ended up in a 2-2 draw. Junior Peyton DePriest and Senior Claire Ramet put away the Raiders two goals of the match early in the first half.
MTSU started off hot by scoring twice during the first 10 minutes of the match. DePriest put away her seventh goal, on the season by turning her defender off the ball and poking it into the net from just six yards out. This puts her at 31 goals all-time, which is fifth best in Blue Raider history.
It was a big night for Claire Ramet who scored her first career goal for the Blue Raiders, striking a penalty hard into the left side of the goal to give the Blue Raiders a 2-0 advantage.
Rice would bring the deficit within one before halftime after Forward Izzy McBride put away a penalty kick of her own.
Rice would tie up the game quickly into the second half, bringing the game to a 2-2 stalemate.
Arguably the best shot of the match didn't even go in but it sure looked good. Junior forward Maddison Falter hit a screamer from about 20 yards out that slammed underneath the crossbar but was unable to sneak across the line.
Not only was the matchup contested tightly on the scoreboard, both sides had no problem putting their bodies on the line to make plays. In total there was 42 fouls, 19 committed by the Raiders and 23 by the Owls. Six yellow cards were also dished out, two coming the way of MTSU and four going towards Rice.

MTSU travels to Denton, Texas to take on the Mean Green of North Texas. This should be an intriguing match-up as North Texas is the reigning C-USA champions.
