Round 2 Results
PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Middle Tennessee continued its strong play on day two of the Callaway Gardens Invite, posting a round 6-over par 290 to maintain its grasp of the team lead at the 36-hole mark with a two-round total of 10-over par (288-290=578).
"I thought we had a very good day out there today," Head Coach Chris Adams stated. "We eliminated some of the mistakes we made yesterday and we really finished strong down the stretch on some tough holes."
Senior Sophie Burks remains atop the scoring for the Blue Raiders and has moved into sole possession of the top spot on the individual leaderboard after carding an even par 71 on Tuesday.
The Montgomery, Ala., native is now 3-under (68-71=139) for the week and sits one stroke ahead of Mercer's Tracy Rodriguez (-2) with 18 holes to play on Wednesday.
Sophomore Molly Bebelaar and junior Catherine Caudill remain high up the leaderboard as well, with Bebelaar currently in ninth at 3-over par (72-73=145) while Caudill is tied for 13th at 5-over (73-74=147).
Senior Caroline Caudill moved four spots up the leaderboard on Tuesday and is now just outside the Top 20 at 7-over par (75-74=149), while the day's big mover was sophomore Taylor Edlin.
Edlin's 1-over par 72 was bested by only six of her 60 competitors on Tuesday as she climbed 21 spots up the individual leaderboard into a tie for 31st at 9-over par (79-72=151).
Junior Madison Smith shaved a stroke off of her opening round score on the second day and stands two strokes back of Edlin at 11-over par (77-76=153).
"I'm very proud of the way everyone played and I think we just had a lot of fun out on the course today," Adams added. "It's good to see our team clicking and in a good spot so far, and also to see Sophie get a couple of birdies on the back nine that have her in position to contend for an individual title."
The Blue Raiders' biggest threats on the tournament's final day will come from Central Arkansas (+12) and Troy (+14), while Conference USA foes UAB, WKU and FIU finished round two at 24-over, 28-over and 30-over par, respectively.
Tee times remain at 8:30 a.m. for Wednesday's final round with Smith leading things off for MT at 10:45 a.m.
