Raiders Finish Regular Season at Vanderbilt

Nashville, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee track and field teams concluded the regular season with five top-10 finishes at the Music City Challenge.
Akera Benton continues to shine in the jumping events, claiming third place overall in the women's triple jump with a mark of 12.16m, about 1.38m shy of the record at Vanerbilt.
Willington Wright took the silver in the men's 400-meter event (47.10s) and Matthew Stewart finished 13th with a time of 48.85. For the women, Shawkia Iddrisu finished 6th overall and had a time of 55.46s. Nathan Mack competed in the men's 800-meter and performed well, finishing 18th overall with a time of 1:55.95.
Distance runners Jacob Choge and Eusila Chepkemei took on the men's and women's one mile events. Choge claimed the gold in the men's race with a time of 4:04.13 and Chepkemei finished 12th with a time of 4:48.80.
MT had six Blue Raiders in total, two women and four men, compete in the 3,000-meter events Saturday. For the women, freshman standout Mercy Chepkurui claimed eighth place overall with a time of 9:45.94, while Pamela Kosgei finished 13th with a final time of 9:50.35. Brian Rono, Stephen Mengich, Thobile Mosito and Titus Lagat were the four men who competed, with Rono leading the Blue Raiders as he finished 21st with a time of 8:23.56. Stephen Mengich and Thobile Mosito finished 29th and 30th overall, and Lagat followed behind with a time of 9:00.59.
