Blue Raiders Set for C-USA Indoor Championships

Murfreesboro, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee track and field teams are headed to Birmingham, Ala. this weekend for the 2020 Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by UAB.

The Blue Raider men look to defend their championship title after coming out on top last season with a compiled 143 points. MT saw individual victories from Jaquez Torian in the 400m, Kigen Chemadi in the 3,000m, Jacob Choge in the 5,000m, Fabian Edoki in the long jump and Isaac Odugbesan in shot put. The 4x400 meter relay team also claimed the gold with a new C-USA Championship meet record time of 3:09.17.
There are three Blue Raider men on C-USA's "Who to Watch" list this season across six events. Brian Rono is on the list for the 800m after finishing with a career-best time of 1:49.83 at the Vanderbilt Invitational putting him at the No. 1 spot in the conference. Kigen Chemadi is on the list for three events; the mile, 3,000m and 5,000m. Chemadi ranks nationally in all three events, with his highest ranking being eighth in the 5,000m. Jacob Choge is also on the watch list in the mile and 5,000m as he ranks nationally in both as well.
The women look to claim their second championship title after winning in 2018 with 127 total points. They saw titles in four events that season, including the 60m dash, the 400m, the 800m and the 4x400-meter relay. Last season, the women finished third with 73 points and won four events.
Cecilia Francis is on the watch list this season for the women's 60m dash with her career-best time of 7.37s, which she clocked when she claimed the gold at the 2018 championships. Junior Esther Isa is also on the list for the women's high jump.
The meet will begin on Saturday at 9 a.m. CT beginning with combined events. Field events will start at 2 p.m. and the first running event, the mile, is set to begin at 4 p.m. The first day will wrap up with the DMR, which is scheduled to begin at 8:20 p.m.
Sunday will kick off with the remaining heptathlon events at 9 a.m., followed by the first field event beginning at 11 a.m. The running finals will start at 1 p.m. and there will be live coverage on ESPN+ beginning at 2 p.m.
