Conway, S.C. – The Middle Tennessee baseball team dropped the opening game of a three game series to Coastal Carolina, 13-6. Despite a two home run night from Jacob Williams, the Blue Raiders (4-9, C-USA 0-0) couldn't overcome a six run bottom of the fifth inning as the Chanticleers (9-4, Sun Belt 0-0) collected four hits and a pair of walks.

The Blue Raiders found themselves in an early 3-0 hole as starting pitcher Aaron Brown allowed back-to-back home runs to the heart of the Chanticleer order. The junior left the game after 3.2 innings pitched and allowed six earned runs and eight hits.

Freshman Jacob Williams hit his first collegiate home run in the top of the second inning. The towering two-run home run over the left field wall brought home Nathan Sanders and the Raiders within a run of the Chanticleers.

MT kept it close until the high powered Chanticleer offense exploded for six runs in the fifth inning, stretching the lead to 12-3. This would make the seventh game this season that Coastal Carolina has scored in double figures.

Williams wasn't through however and knocked his second home run of the game over the left-center field wall and cut the Coastal lead to 12-6 in the top of the eighth inning. The Virginia native finished the game 4-for-4 with two home runs, a pair of singles, and racked up five RBI.

"Almost every single time we play these teams something positive comes out of it," said Head Coach Jim Toman. "Today it looks like we found a guy that might end up being a pretty good hitter for us."

The Blue Raiders will return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. CST to try and pull even in the series before wrapping things up on Sunday at 12 p.m. CST
