Middle Tennessee men's tennis team returns two senior stalwarts in Tom Moonen and Max Rauch.
This was going to be the third year in a row where coach Jimmy Borendame would graduate three senior players, but the shortened season resulted in extra eligibility granted, hence the return of the two seniors.
"Learning that we get Max Rauch and Tom Moonen back for an extra year is just a huge asset for the program," said head coach Jimmy Borendame. "These men play high level tennis and are great ambassadors for the MT Men's Tennis program. These two men sit at the top of their class and all around are great guys. I cannot wait to go back to work with these two and the rest of the team next year."
The biggest assist they will provide is in the leadership department. Other than the three seniors, Chris Edge was the lone upperclassmen of the group, with a crop of freshmen and sophomore only getting a taste of college tennis this season.
Both Moonen and Rauch have been featuring frequently since their freshmen years, and they could certainly assist the team with their experience.
After his doubles win against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Moonen entered his name into the Blue Raider all-time greats. He sits at the No. 10 spot in combined wins with 142. He was tasked with the most difficult spot in the lineup for the Blue Raiders, as he earned a 7-5 record at the top spot and took on five nationally ranked opponents in the spring season.
Rauch entered the ITA singles rankings for the first time in his career at No. 121 (Feb. 5). He was 7-4 overall in dual match singles, including a 4-4 record at the No. 4 spot of the lineup in the 2020 spring season.
Their return also will undoubtedly help out in the doubles column, as the Moonen-Edge pairing was the go-to duo at the No. 2 spot. The pair had the most wins on the dual season going 8-4, with each of them missing a match and resting sporadically on doubleheaders. Rauch was 8-4 in dual match doubles, including a 5-1 mark with Daniel Stormon and a 3-2 record with Francisco Rocha mostly at the No. 3 spot.
