Middle Tennessee Softball earns decisive 19-1 victory over Snead State Thursday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Softball earned a decisive 19-1 victory over the Snead State Community College Parsons on Thursday evening, scoring in all but two innings of the 10-inning affair.
Senior Gretchen Mead started on the mound for the Blue Raiders, pitching three innings, striking out three batters, and giving up just two hits. Freshman Keri Munn had two innings of work, putting down three batters, and giving up the Parsons' sole run of the contest on a pair of hits, and walked a batter. Senior Kailey Ahlstrom pitched two innings. Freshman Claire Woods also pitched two innings for the Blue Raiders, striking out two batters, and walking one. Sophomore Danielle Taitt pitched one inning for the Blue Raiders, walking one batter.
The Blue Raiders struck early, as freshman Laura Mealer knocked a sacrifice fly to center field in the bottom of the first to score junior Kelci Hill and give Middle Tennessee the 1-0 lead heading into the second.
In the second inning, Middle Tennessee plated freshman Abby Shoulders and freshman Claire Czajkowski on Parsons' errors but closed the inning on a huge RBI double from Hill that she knocked to left center to bring home senior Savannah Freeman and extend the Blue Raiders lead to 4-0 after two.
Snead State cut the deficit to three, 4-1, in the top of the fourth inning.
The Blue Raiders responded in the bottom of the fourth as Mealer connected on an RBI single to plate Hill and extend their lead back to four, 5-1.
Middle Tennessee broke the game open in the sixth as they loaded the bases and plated four runs on three hits to take a 9-1 advantage entering the seventh.
The Blue Raiders brought three more across in the seventh. Sophomore Amaya Harris knocked a two-out RBI single to score Herring. Harris scored on an error by the Snead State catcher and senior Mia Marinakis knocked a playable ball to center field that was dropped to bring home Mealer on an error by center field to put the Blue Raiders up 12-1.
Middle Tennessee continued to produced offense in the eighth inning, plating six runs on six hits. Senior Hailey Bosley knocked home Shoulders on an RBI double. Redshirt junior Gracie Kirby followed with a one-out RBI double to plate Freeman. Harris scored Kirby on a one-out RBI single to right field. Freshman Anyce Harvey plated Sargent and Harris off a two-out RBI double, before Harvey rounded home off an error on the shortstop to close out the inning and push the Blue Raiders lead to 18-1 after eight.
The Blue Raiders plated their final run in the bottom of the ninth as Freeman connected on a one-out RBI single to bring their lead to its final, 19-1.
