Slavinsky’s golden goal lifts Blue Raiders to OT win over Charlotte

"Charlotte is a strong team, so this was a big win for us," expressed head coach Aston Rhoden. "We created a lot of good chances tonight so putting one set in OT was rewarding for us."
Before the win, the Charlotte 49ers (6-5-1, 2-2-1 C-USA) were positioned right in front of the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (7-5-1, 3-2 C-USA) at third in the C-USA East. The Blue Raiders' victory moved the Blue Raiders over the 49ers and into third in the C-USA east, just behind the Old Dominion Monarchs and the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.
10 Blue Raiders recorded a shot against the 49ers, with senior Peyton DePriest leading the way. DePriest tied her career-high of eight shots, putting seven on goal in the contest. She also tallied the Blue Raiders first goal of the game on a penalty kick. Slavinsky, senior Sam DeBien, and sophomore Taylor Hamlett recorded a team second-best two shots each and Slavinsky netted the Blue Raiders' game-winner in overtime.

"Slav's goal was brilliant and I'm so happy for her," said Rhoden. "Now we have to get rested and start our preparation for another tough C-USA opponent in UTEP next Friday."
Junior Hannah Suder played all 92 minutes between the posts for the Blue Raiders, recording two saves and allowing just one goal in the win.
After the 49ers recorded the first shot of the contest, the Blue Raiders took control of the match and kept the pressure on for the entire first 45 minutes of play. Middle Tennessee outshot Charlotte 7-3 over the first half of play, with an impressive 5-1 advantage for shots on target. However, the 49ers keeper was able to limit the damage as the two squads headed into the locker room locked at nil after the first 45 minutes of play.
Charlotte struck quickly after coming out of the locker room as the 49ers' Piper Biziorek found the back of the net in the 53rd minute. However, the Blue Raiders responded immediately as DePriest drew a penalty in the penalty box, before easily knocking in the equalizing penalty kick not even a minute later in the 53rd minute on her second shot of the period to even the contest at one.
53' | GOOOOOOOOOAL @PeyDepriest! DePriest draws the foul in the box and you won't win a 1-on-1 with the C-USA all-time leader as the Blue Raiders even things back up at one on the PK!

Middle Tennessee looked to take the lead, outshooting Charlotte 7-5 over the final 37 minutes of play, including a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal, but nothing would fall as the game headed into overtime locked at one.
Following another DePriest shot on goal to open the overtime period, Slavinksy collected a ball above the 18-yard box from DePriest. After battling with a 49ers' defender and collecting a rebound off her first attempt, Slavinsky shot a rocket over the Charlotte keeper and into the top right of the net to seal the Blue Raiders 2-1 overtime win in the 93rd minute and record her first career game-winning goal.
