Jacob Choge Qualifies for NCAA Cross Country Championship
11/16/2021 10:30:00 AM | Men's Cross Country and Track & Field
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Graduate Student Jacob Choge qualified to compete in the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championship Men's 10K race in Tallahassee, Florida on Saturday, November 20.
Choge was chosen by the NCAA Cross Country Committee to compete in the event after finishing sixth (29:38.44) at the NCAA South Regional Men's 10K last Friday in Huntsville, Alabama. That placement was good enough to earn himself an automatic qualifying bid to the championship next week. The fifth-year graduate student from Eldoret, Kenya has had a storied career with Middle Tennessee XC, next Saturday will mark his sixth NCAA Championship that Jacob has qualified for, and will be his fifth actually competing in.
"Jacob, as far as a teammate goes, just likes to do his job and go home, I've even had him slow down for the team in practices, that's how good of an athlete he is. He's been more than willing to do anything he can for the team, going into the conference tournament he was willing to compete in every race to help the team win, it speaks volumes to who Jacob is. He has given everything to Middle Tennessee State University and I can't say enough about him, he's incredible to be around. It's kind of a little emotional, I'm so happy he made it (NCAA Championship), I wish the team was with him but he consistently worked to get ready for the championship season and I'm excited, I hope he can make top 40."
