Blue Raiders with Strong Showing on Day One of Music City Challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee track and field team had a solid outing on day one of the Music City Challenge. With one win and four competitors finishing in the top three in their respective events, the Blue Raiders looked to find indoor success.
Jumps
Esther Isa had a strong showing with a 1.78m jump to claim the women's high jump title. In his debut freshman, Erhi Omamuyovwi ended with a 2.13m jump to finish second in the men's high jump, while Kyle Teague finished third at 1.88m. Benjamin Onyekwelu made a jump of 7.34m to finish second in the men's long jump. Ester Isa jumped 5.52m, and Akera Benton jumped 5.45m to finish eighth and ninth, respectively, in the women's long jump.
Sprints
Cecilia Francis opened up her 2021 indoor season with a time of 24.55 seconds in the women's 200 meters to finish third. Agnes Abrocquah followed her in sixth position with 25.06, and Glory Nyenke finished ninth with a time of 25.89. There was a similar story on the men's side. Nickson Pierre finished fourth with a time of 22.08 in the men's 200 meters, starting his indoor track season on a high in his first-ever race as a Blue Raider. Matthew Stewart followed him in the fifth position with 22.12, while Darian Jones finished seventh and Courtland Jordan finishing eighth.
Day two of the Music City Challenge commences on Saturday, Feb. 13. The first track event is scheduled to be the women's 60m prelims at noon, with the women's shotput kicking off the field events at noon.
