Raiders return to the diamond for South Alabama Classic

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — After missing last weekend, Middle Tennessee is back in action this week for five games at the South Alabama Classic, which features two meetings against a nationally-ranked opponent.

About the Blue Raiders
» MT gets back on the diamond this week after canceling its games at the Alabama State Classic last weekend.
» Amber Baldwin tossed two complete games, including a shutout in the season opener against the Aggies. Baldwin enters the weekend with a 1.00 ERA and .152 opponent batting average.
» Summer Burgess started her 200th career game on Feb. 13 against Liberty and is one of two Blue Raiders with three hits entering the third weekend of the new season.
» Makenzie Hutchinson started all three games behind the plate in her first collegiate weekend tournament and is the only other Blue Raider with three hits after three games.
» Hutchinson's fellow freshman Nahri Tath-Slezak leads the team with a pair of RBIs and started all three games at right field for her new team.
» Second baseman Lani Rodriguez leads the team with nine assists, including a double play against New Mexico State that was featured on the NCAA softball social media channels and named the No. 7 play of the week by D1Softball.com.

» Friday's game between SIU Edwardsville and the Blue Raiders will be the first ever meeting between the two programs.
» Missouri won the only previous meeting between the Tigers and MT, an 8-3 decision in 2007.
» MT leads the all-time series over Northwestern State, 2-1, after winning a one-run game at the Mardi Gras Mambo last season.
» South Alabama holds a 16-9 advantage in the all-time series over MT, but the Blue Raiders narrowed that margin last season with a 3-0 win at The Spring Games.

» MT's first opponent of the weekend, SIU Edwardsville, did not play last weekend due to weather and travel conditions, so the Cougars will begin their 2021 season at the Jaguar Classic.
» Missouri enters the week ranked No. 20 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and boasts wins over fellow C-USA member Florida Atlantic as well as No. 15 Florida State.
» Issues with weather have canceled 13 of Northwestern State's 15 scheduled games to open the season. The Demons will take on the Blue Raiders on Saturday.
» The host South Alabama Jaguars enter the weekend at 4-4, including a win over No. 19 Georgia.
