MIDDLE TENNESSEE 7, SIU EDWARDSVILLE 6 (10 Inn.)
» SIU Edwardsville started off the scoring with a two-run second inning. MT then answered in its half of the second, with Summer Burgess picking up the RBI on a bases loaded walk.
» Lexi Cushing slugged a two-run shot to left field in the third inning that scored Kelci Hill, who led off the frame with a double.
» Amaya Harris singled home Jocelynn De La Cruz later in the inning to extend the Blue Raider lead.
» The Cougars then fought back, scoring one run in the fifth and three in the sixth, to retake the lead.
» Nahri Tath-Slezak collected an RBI to score Jaya Herring in the sixth to cut the Cougar lead to one run.
» MT had bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the seventh but could only muster one run, as Claire Smith recorded a sacrifice fly that scored Ashlee Jacoway.
» Makenzie Hutchinson picked a good time for her first career home run. The freshman catcher led off the bottom of the 10th inning with a solo blast over the center field wall to give her team the 7-6 win.
» Five of SIU Edwardsville's six runs and 11 of its 17 hits came with two outs.
» Kailey Ahlstrom pitched 4.1 scoreless innings in relief and notched her first win of the season.
» Cushing's two-run homer in the third inning gave her 45 career home runs. The long ball was MT's first of the 2021 season as a team and marked the first time a Blue Raider had a multi-RBI game this season.
» Harris made her first career start in MT's first game of the day, hitting sixth and being MT's designated player before moving to second base later in the game. Harris finished 3-for-4 at the dish, including her first career hit in the second inning and her first career RBI in the third inning.
» De La Cruz's 4-for-4 performance is a new career high for hits in a game. The senior third baseman doubled in the third for her first extra base hit of the season.
» Jacoway made her collegiate debut in a pinch running situation and scored the game-tying run in the seventh inning that sent the game into extras.
» Friday afternoon's 10-inning thriller marked the program's longest game since March 30, 2019, when MT won over Charlotte in 11 innings.
MIDDLE TENNESSEE 3, No. 20 MISSOURI 4
» Missouri scored an unearned run in the top of the first, then the Tigers struck with two outs to add a second run in as many innings.
» The Tigers added a third run on a solo homer in the third inning.
» MT answered in the third inning with one run. Claire Smith led off the inning with a single up the middle and came around to score on a Kelci Hill sacrifice fly.
» After a scoreless fourth inning, Missouri hit its second solo homer of the day to make it a 4-1 score in the fifth inning.
» The Blue Raiders responded again with two runs in the fifth, as Nahri Tath-Slezak plated Smith, followed by a Lexi Cushing double that scored Tath-Slezak.
» With two outs in the top of the sixth, Missouri slugged a two-run homer to put the Tigers back up by three.
» MT had the go-ahead run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh but was unable to score.
» Danielle Taitt made her first collegiate appearance when she stepped in the circle as MT's starting pitcher against the Tigers.
QUOTES FROM THE BLUE RAIDERS
» Head Coach Jeff Breeden on Makenzie Hutchinson's walk-off homer and the Blue Raiders' 10-inning win over SIU Edwardsville: "[Hutchinson] hit the ball hard all day and made some great plays on bunts and pop-ups. Her bomb to walk it off was awesome for a freshman. She is solid as a rock as a player."
» Breeden on battling pitch-for-pitch with a nationally-ranked team: "Missouri is a very tough and strong team, and I'm proud that we went toe-to-toe with them. Danielle [Taitt] and [Corrina] Dodd both pitched well today, and I thought Amaya Harris was on fire at the plate today. Nahri [Tath-Slezak] continues to hit and pick up RBIs. I feel like as we continue to play, we'll be very good. I'm excited at the good things I see from a lot of our team members, and most importantly, we have some fighters."
» Catcher Makenzie Hutchinson on making a major impact with her new team: "It felt great knowing that we walked away from that game with a win, especially after 10 innings. It was a great team effort, and everyone did their part and gave it their all."
» Hutchinson on her team's ability to battle with a nationally-ranked team: "We have top-rated athletes on this team, and we're super excited to play a ranked team. We knew we were up to giving them a challenge. We have strong players, great coaches, and we really came in strong with the hitting and went all out on defense today."
