BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Middle Tennessee stands tied for second place on a weather-shortened first day at the UAB Spring Invitational, currently 23-over par with seven holes remaining in round two.
The Blue Raiders turned in an 11-over par 299 in the opening round and were just one stroke back of tournament host and leader UAB, and will return to action two strokes back of the Blazers.
"We just tried to hang tough today after the delay and keep ourselves in a spot where we can contend tomorrow," Head Coach Chris Adams said. "We'll have to see what the weather does tomorrow, but obviously we hope to get some more holes in and push for the lead when we re-start in the morning."
A pair of Blue Raiders are tied for second on the individual leaderboard at Greystone, as Sophie Burks and Molly Bebelaar both concluded the day in a six-way tie at 3-over par.
Burks fired a 2-under par 70 in round one to share the individual lead but struggled after the lightning delay while Bebelaar shot a 2-over 74 in the first round and ids 1-over thru 14 in round two after two birdies in her last four holes.
Madison Smith, who is competing for the first time this spring after missing the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational, is tied for 11th at 6-over par with five holes to go in round two Tuesday morning.
Caroline Caudill is 12-over par and Taylor Edlin is 13-over par with both thru 13 holes in round two, while individual Catherine Caudill is 11-over par with three holes left to finish her second round.
The tournament will reconvene Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. to wrap up the second round before starting round three.
