Track & Field Set to Open Outdoor Season at Tiger Track Classic

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee men's and women's track and field teams will open their 2021 outdoor season at the Tiger Track Classic March 19-20 in Auburn, Ala.
Legendary head coach Dean Hayes is in the midst of his fifth decade at Middle Tennessee State University as the longest-tenured head coach in Blue Raider athletics. He begins his 56th season at the helm of the men's and women's track & field program.
2021 Indoor Track & Field Recap
Six Middle Tennessee athletes earned C-USA Indoor Track & Field All-Conference honors. Benjamin Onyekwelu received first-team honors in the long jump and third-team honors in the triple jump. The 4x400 relay team of Matthew Stewart, Nickson Pierre, Brian Rono, and Jaquez Torian garnered second-team honors. Erhi Omamyouwi finished second in the triple jump and the high jump to earn second-team recognition. Brian Rono finished fourth in the 800m dash and received second-team honors. Jaquez Torian finished second in the 400m with 49.95 to secure a second-team selection.
Cecilia Francis won the 60-meter with a time of 7.46 to garner first-team honors. Esther Isa brought home two championships, winning the high jump with an effort of 1.78 meters and the triple jump with a 13.09 effort to earn first-team recognition. She was later named Conference USA Female Field Performer of the Meet for her stellar performance.
Middle Tennessee collected one All-American honor at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Freshman Erhire Omamuyovwi competed in the Men's High Jump and finished 12th to earn Second-Team All-America honors.
