MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee baseball team dropped the first game of a four-game weekend series to Memphis, 1-0, on Friday. The Blue Raiders' (10-6, C-USA 0-0) starting pitcher Aaron Brown shined in the afternoon loss, picking up a career-high 13 strikeouts against the Tigers (7-7, AAC 0-0).
To go along with Brown's strikeout total, the junior pitched eight innings, walked one, and allowed just one earned run on four hits.
Coming into today's game the Mt. Juliet native was fourth in the country in total strikeouts and his total on the season is now up to an even 50.
On the other side of the ball the Blue Raiders struggled to get on base, managing just three hits and two walks.
Opposing pitcher Blake Wimberley also had a good pitching performance, striking out 12 Blue Raiders on the afternoon and seven in a row at one point.
The difference in the game came in the bottom of the second inning when Memphis shortstop Ben Brooks hit a home run to left field giving the Tigers the only run they would need to win.
Middle Tennessee looks to bounce back against the Tigers tomorrow in a doubleheaders starting at 1 p.m.
