MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — An already deep and talented 2022 pitching rotation recently added more depth and talent, as Middle Tennessee softball announced Monday the signing of midstate pitcher Keri Munn.
Munn, a Manchester, Tennessee product and soon-to-be graduate of Coffee County Central High School, originally verbally committed to Auburn before deciding to play for head coach Jeff Breeden at Middle Tennessee.
"[Munn] is definitely a power pitcher. She's got a good rise ball followed up by a really good changeup," Breeden said of MT's newest signee, who will trade in her Red Raider uniform for a Blue Raider one in the fall. "A lot of those Coffee County fans that follow her will continue to follow her career here.
"She's coming from a program that matters to the community, and that'll be a plus when she gets here. She plays under pressure and in front of big crowds all the time there, and she'll step up here and continue to do the same."
Munn is a two-sport athlete at Coffee County, specializing in softball and volleyball. In addition to being in her school's top three in career blocks, kills and aces on the hardwood, she also boasts an ERA of 0.64 and opponent batting average of .096 so far in her senior year. She's been named Female Athlete of the Year and her softball team's Defensive MVP throughout her high school career.
One year after producing the top recruiting class in Conference USA, Breeden alongside coaches Tony Foti and Chelsea Hawkins have continued to seek out and bring in the nation's top softball players. Munn is now the sixth member of the 2021 class, joined by Claire Czajkowski, Anyce Harvey, Laura Mealer, Abby Shoulders and Claire Woods. Munn and Woods are the only two pitchers in this year's class.
"There will be good competition, and the cream should rise to the top," Breeden said of his team's youth and depth next season. "Those that want to compete for and win a job will have that opportunity."
