Raiders Sweep Western Kentucky on Senior Day

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Facing its biggest rival, the Middle Tennessee women's tennis was up for the challenge as they swept Western Kentucky, 7-0, Saturday afternoon at the Adams Tennis Complex.
The Blue Raiders improve to 10-9 overall this season and pick up their second Conference USA win of the season while WKU falls to 4-12 and 1-4 in conference play.
Before the match, the Raiders honored their lone senior Lidia Burrows, who only added to her magnificent career against the Hilltoppers, Saturday, as she paired with Lee Barnard for the clinching doubles win, 7-6 (7) as well as picking up the match-clinching singles win, 7-5, 6-4. For Burrows, it was her 90th singles win as a Blue Raider, just one away from tying the school record.
After doubles wins by Barnard and Burrows as well as Noelle Mauro and Lilly-Sophie Schmidt, Barnard quickly added another point for MTSU as her opponent retired due to injury with Barnard up 5-2 in the first set.
Muskan Gupta gave the Raiders a 3-0 lead with 6-3, 6-3 victory on court #6 before Burrows clinched the match on court #2.
Love-Star Alexis took her match on court #4, 7-6 (3), 6-4 to keep MTSU perfect before Zani Barnard completed a comeback on court #3, winning the final five games of the match to win 7-5, 7-5. Mauro completed the sweep on court #5 with a 7-5, 6-2 victory.
The Blue Raiders will return to action next weekend for their final two matches of the regular season when they travel to Birmingham to take on Samford on Friday at 9 a.m. before playing UAB, Saturday at noon.
