Blue Raiders Capture Three Titles on the Third Day of C-USA Outdoor Championships

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee track and field team collected three Conference USA titles on Saturday. Erhire Omamuyovwi captured the men's high jump title, Joice Jebor and Kigen Chemadi took the women's and men's 3000m steeplechase titles.
Jumps
In the men's long jump Benjamin Onyekwelu finished 11th with a mark of 6.11m. On the women's side, Esther Isa used a leap of 6.11m to finish fourth, while Akera Benton finished 9th with a jump of 5.90m.
Erhire Omamuyovwi used a jump of 2.18m to capture the men's high jump title. Kyle Teague finished 10th with a leap of 1.94m.
Sprints
Amarachukwu Obi ran a 54.61 and Agnes Abrocquah a 55.28 to qualify for tomorrow's women's 400m final at 4:50 pm. In the men's 400m prelims Jaquez Torian (47.04) and Darian Jones (47.67), both earned spots in the men's 400m final tomorrow at 4:55 pm.
Cecilia Francis used a time of 11.88 to qualify for the women's 100m final tomorrow at 5:10 pm.
Amarachukwu Obi ran an impressive 23.56 to notch a spot in the women's 200m final.
Middle Distance
The Blue Raiders dominated the 800m prelims as Patience Akanwogba, Eusila Chepkemei, Francisca Jebor, and Quanisha Marshall all qualified for the final race tomorrow at 5:20 pm. The Blue Raiders continued their dominance as Jacob Choge, Stephen Mengich, Brian Rono, and Isaiah Strauel qualified for the men's 800m final tomorrow at 5:25 pm.
Eusila Chepkemei (4:33.05), Faith Rono (4:33.25), and Joice Jebor (4:34.14) finished with fast times in the women's 1500m prelims and will qualify for the final race tomorrow at 4:15 pm. Brian Rono and Jacob Choge both qualified for the men's 1500m final tomorrow at 4:25 pm with times of 3:51.94 and 3:52.71.
Long Distance
In the women's 3000m steeplechase Joice Jebor captured the title with a run of 10:34.38. Caitlin Cunningham ran a new personal best 10:53.03 to take the bronze. On the men's side, Kigen Chemadi completed the 3000m steeplechase sweep with a run of 8:44.79 to take the gold. Lebo Mosito finished fourth with a time of 8:53.68.
Hurdles
Glory Nyenke notched a spot in the women's 400m hurdles final tomorrow with a time of 1:03.39.
